The LEAD Tribune Media Group held it’s inaugural Central Ohio Tech Power Player Awards reception Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the Columbus Atheneum. ATC was in attendance – along with 400 other IT executives – to celebrate leading technology executives in central Ohio.
Jason Skidmore, Vernovis CEO, emceed the event which was kicked off by LEAD Tribune’s Steve Wanamaker. Central Ohio Primary Care‘s Angelo Mazzocco presented an interesting overview on the region, which highlighted Columbus’ spectacular, yet often unrecognized growth. Not many people realize that Columbus is not only the largest city in Ohio but the 14th largest nationwide, well ahead of Boston and just behind San Francisco. This growth has been driven by “C-Bus-headquartered” companies that have embraced technology to differentiate. Other presenters included Ben Blanquera, VP Delivery and Experience at the Columbus Collaboratory, and Ted Ford, President of Ohio Advanced Energy Economy.
Jeff Wilkins delivered the keynote address. Wilkins led CompuServe, the first major commercial online service provider in the United States, while it dominated the 80’s and early 90’s. For those that remember the 80’s, CompuServe was the first brand name many associated with the Internet, even before AOL started “carpet bombing” CD-ROM’s to everyone’s doorstep for free trial downloads. CompuServe was founded in Columbus and is often credited as the brainchild of Wilkins. Wilkins’ keynote provided a pioneer’s take on computer processing and online services.
