“We have to go beyond just ‘move to the cloud,’” says Oracle Senior Vice President Steve Daheb. “We’re all running our businesses on infrastructures that we built over years,” Daheb adds, and cloud solutions need to complement the investments businesses have made in those infrastructures.
Our sentiments exactly! Do it your way… not to be confused with Do It Yourself (DIY). There are many cloud providers and all have a “method to their madness,” yet not all are a fit for you, nor are they all interested in right-sizing your solution to synchronize with your technology roadmap.
Clearly, the cloud is here to stay. Both mid-market companies and enterprises continue to recognize the value and scalability that cloud computing has to offer. That being said, ATC prefers the crawl-walk-run approach to cloud adoption. Apparently, Daheb feels the same way as he outlined in a recent address to Oracle users. Read about it here if you want the heavy Oracle pitch as well. Otherwise, here’s the gist:
- For people steeped in the nitty-gritty operations of enterprise technology, 90 percent of which still resides on company-owned data centers, “moving to cloud” sounds like a journey for another day. They aren’t immune to the promises, but they’re busy keeping their business’s current set of applications running.
- “So the question becomes, how do you take advantage of cloud in a way that makes sense to the way you work right now, today?,” said Daheb.
- One way to start taking advantage of cloud is to find a line of business within your company that’s ready to upgrade to modern digital processes.
