This month marks my eighth year in the channel. But for all intents and purposes, I am still a comparative newbie, a rookie, a novice. If I worked on a crab boat, they would call me a greenhorn.
My counterparts in the industry have been at it for 15 to 25+ years. They were around for the birth of the Internet and the rise of packet technology. They witnessed the breakup of Ma Bell (the year I was born!) and structuring of the RBOCs. The list goes on and on. But telecom years are like dog years, so at the eight-year mark, I’ve now witnessed a great deal of change. Of all the technologies introduced in my time, I consider VoIP and cloud technologies to be the most significant.
