I used to kid around with my son on vacation and tell him – he was a growing boy, you know – that if he were going to get big air on the wakeboard, he would have to eat big too. If You’re Gonna Go Big, You Gotta Eat Big! It became a fun expression as we lined up with family to serve ourselves healthy portions of wonderfully prepared, wholesome comfort food. One problem: I was getting big too, but I was no longer growing. I could still get some air, though. I have a picture somewhere to prove it – I think.
Parlayed to business, the same expression holds many truths as well…. with slight modification. If you’re gonna go big, you gotta look big, feel big, act big. The good news is that when it comes to telephony you can do all this and spend less, and get more features and functionality.
In today’s business climate this seems all too good to be true. Enter VoIP. All of this is not necessarily new gospel by any means. Most business owners have heard the VoIP value proposition, yet most have not made the switch. Maybe they are going to get every last dime out of their old, legacy system (even if it costs them business). Maybe they were scared away by early reliability issues (a myth now). Maybe they are weary of too-good-to-be-true technology solutions. As my Dad always said, “if it seems to good to be true, then it is.” For the most part he is right, but in this case, he is not.
